Fores back in the fight in France
Spaniard takes another podium after a tougher run of late
Xavi Fores (Barni Racing Team) had a tough weekend in Portimao, but the Spaniard was back at the front and fighting for the podium in France. Qualifying went well and he was top Ducati in fourth before he repeated the feat of coming home top Borgo Panigale machine in Race 1, fighting off front row starter Lorenzo Savadori (Milwaukee Aprilia) for third.
Fores was, as expected, happy to be back in the battle.
“Back on the podium was needed, that’s for sure,” beams the Spaniard. “It was a very good race for me, especially at the start of the race when I was following Tom. It wasn’t easy but I was able to follow him. Then after seven or eight laps I felt a drop on the front tyre and I was in trouble so I decided to stick to my rhythm and try to defend third, so it was a good result for sure.”
Sticking to his rhythm certainly had its rewards, and Fores adds it’s that much sweeter because of the hard work put in – even as late as Friday night. He has his aim set similarly high for Race 2, despite now starting from the third row of the grid.
“After some problems in the last races, coming back on the podium again is like a victory, for me and for the team. So thanks to everyone because we did a lot of work in the box – especially last night to find something on the bike to improve our pace. We were able to,” he continues. “I’m confident we can fight for the podium tomorrow. If I can get a good start, I’ll try to push hard.”
